After reviewing the ideas about salt chain, I found some problems that were overlooked at the beginning of the idea and during the making process.
1. Why is the work in the form of a chain?
The reasons for choosing a more concrete form (chain) at the beginning of the idea include ：a. I want to present my truest inner state, which is the feeling of being trapped by past events and memories. That ’s what I once mentioned, “I ’m holding myself , it ’s the imprisoned self.” B. Considering that my audience is‘ survivor’ of some traumatic experience, so when I researched, I found that in Indonesia, some patients who have the mental health problem will be chained at home by loved ones or others. This makes me feel very painful. But at this stage, I found that the above two points cannot fully explain the significance of chains that must be part of the project. Therefore, I need to do more research and reflection on this point.
2. Rethink the necessity of lettering on the salt chain
Considering that the "salt" project itself is a very personal project, so on the issue of how to accurately convey personal emotions, I intend to use auxiliary methods such as text to help "me" to be more accurate and more adequate to communicate the message which I hope to convey to the "audience". During the holidays, I read and recording some narratiive wrtings about traumatic experiences and personal emotions, as well as some of my diaries. But after I conducted the lettering experiment, I raised the question: When the audience is watching my work, does the emotional identity or perception of the work come from the text on the work or the work itself. The first is literature? Or art? Since there is no way to use workshop in the state of isolation at home, some technical problems can not be solved well, so the effect of the lettering process can not achieve the expected effect. Therefore, my next step is to consider the idea of abandoning the text carved on the salt chain, or find another alternative way to present the work.
3. The final form of the work If I just refer to the salt chain as my work, I don't think I can fully express what I want to convey to the outside world. I think the ‘body’ wearing the chain is also a very important part, so I need to do some research and development at this point - 'body'.
